Labels for Less Opens in Middletown
Is that Lilly Pulitzer? On clearance? It was instead, Ann Taylor, but it was equally lovely and a bargain at $10. I found this little dirt cheap gem at the newly opened Labels for Less in Middletown (next to Custom House Coffee on Aquidneck Avenue). The shop (formerly known at Sportswear, etc.) relocated from Portsmouth
and has some great staples (khakis for him, comfy sweats, t-shirts, jeans) from brands including Ralph Lauren, J. Jill, Eddie Bauer, Lauren by Ralph Lauren, Woolrich and more.
Considering the forecast, the women’s water resistant New Englander Rain Jacket by Charles River (at right) might come in handy for just $49.99 (x-small—3XL), and it comes in toddler and youth sizes as well for $29.99.
Loved the men’s fl
at front (thank God!) Ralph Lauren Polo Chino in khaki, stone and navy (sz. 34-42) for just $28 and the men’s Woolrich 3x dry cotton dobby long-sleeve shirt (water repellent, quick dry, stain resistant…virtually indestructible) for $29.99. Prices are already low, and right now you’ll find steeper discounts as part of the end of summer clearance!
Labels for Less is located at 796 Aquidneck Avenue in Middletown. “Like” their Facebook page for updates on sales and new inventory.
Deals & Steals: MLK Weekend Edition
With Monday’s observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Newporters are looking forward to the 3-day weekend which may include sledding, ice skating on Lily Pond or at the Skating Center, or toasting our winter wonderland with a piping hot Irish Coffee (would love to know YOUR favorite Irish Coffee around town). Fresh of the Christmas holiday rush, area retailers are anxious to move inventory to make room for spring (oh, doesn’t spring sound fabulous right now?) Here’s the scoop:
Wish (664 Thames Street) is slashing prices with 20%, 30% and 50% of select styles, and they have a ton of labels to tout: Marc Jacobs, DVF, Burberry, Free People, Prada, and Coach as well as designer denim as low as $25! Sale is today through Sunday…
The Linen Shop (196 Bellevue Avenue): There’s just something about starting off the new year with fresh linens…and here’s great news. THE ENTIRE SHOP is 20% off and there’s a special sale table with goods marked down up to 70%. If you’ve never been, you should stop by there, just to take in the history of it’s location and get a sense of what fine linens are all about. Owner Meg McGuire is always a gracious host and knows just about everything there is to know about bath and linen lines. Here you’ll find pieces by Abyss, Matouk, Yves Delorme and more.
Michael Hayes (202 Bellevue Avenue and 19 Bowen’s Wharf) Designer Sale is in full swing with, and I love this, 20% off already marked down clearance goods.
Cottage & Garden (9 Bridge Street) is putting all topiaries on sale tomorrow (Saturday), so here’s your chance to welcome a little living, breathing freshness to your home.
Banana Republic in Washington Square (124 Thames Street) has a lot of great items on sale. Let me just tell you—I stopped in last night just to see if there might be a piece for me to wear this coming Monday in The Rhode Show (I’ll be dishing on my Golden Globes best dressed and hot messes!) and was torn between two great dresses. I bring them both to the register (including the one pictured here). The silk v-neck drape dress in grey was originally $150, had been marked down to $129, then $109, then $79, then $54.99. THEN I spot a sign—items are AN ADDITIONAL 40% off—hello, my new $32.99 dress. Oh, and the little black number I was mulling over too? $150 to $109 to $59.99 to hanging in my closet for $35.99!!!
If you’re looking to get gorg, Ki-Ra Salon (6 West Marlborough Street) is celebrating their annual Pay It Forward Sale—bring in a bag of non-perishables or personal hygiene products and receive 30% off all services (over $15) and all retail products (some restrictions apply), now through February 12…
Mommies take note: Infant Interiors (8 Freebody Street, # 1) by lovely cover girl Roselle McConnell is having their Once in a Blue Moon sale with 30%-50% off floor models including bedding, dressers, lamps, chandeliers, Moses baskets (love to give Moses baskets as gifts!), window treatments, rugs and art, now through Jan. 31.
A little something for the men (and women), The Narragansett on Bowen’s Wharf (3 Bowen’s Wharf) is hosting their annual Winter Clearance Sale…my husband picked up some great Polo Ralph Lauren pieces there during their last sale. Includes 50-70% off on Paul & Shark, Geiger, Viyella, Rainforest, Max Mara, Faconnable and more. (Polo Ralph Lauren sweater pictured may not be available)
Happy shopping!

Looks like everyone survived the “snowpocalypse” that arrived yesterday! With round-the-clock plowing and some old-fashioned elbow grease, a majority of the retail areas around Bristol and Newport counties will be opening at regular times.
