The Newport Music Festival kicks off its 41st season today, bringing some of the most widely-respected musicians in the world to our humble coastal community. Best of all, organizers go to great lengths to arrange performances in some of Newport’s most captivating venues including The Breakers, The Elms and Belle Mer. Meanwhile, Newport is in a tizzy with two annual bashes hosted tomorrow night: “An Evening Under the Stars” at the International Yacht Restoration School and the “You’re Sensational” dinner dance at the Newport Art Museum. Summer in Newport is full of a grab bag of events— concerts, comedy, black tie galas, soirées by the sea— all demanding thoughtful looks and unleashing fun with fashion. While there is a host of boutiques stocked with glam looks, today we put The Pink Pineapple, with locations in Newport (380 Thames Street) and Portsmouth (106 Clock Tower Road in Clock Tower Square), in the spotlight.
Printed silks, jeweled necklines, one shoulder cuts and preppy pieces round out the goods at both locations (but for a wider selection, the Portsmouth location is best). Ladies tops, skirts, cocktail dresses and glitzy accessories let you build a look from head to toe perfect for the social scene. Expect pieces from better known labels including London Times, Maggie London, Lilly Pulitzer and Milly and emerging names hand-plucked for the stores. While fine frocks make up most of the inventory, The Pink Pineapple is known for their own line of cashmere sweaters designed by owner Stacie Hall. There’s also a ton of tiny treasures to uncover in both locations, from St. Barth’s-worthy sandals from Mystique to anchor-encrusted bangles to coveted clutches. Happy shopping!
