This time of year, the journey to Newport is about as captivating as the City-by-the-Sea itself. Leaf-peepers are relishing this year’s extraordinary foliage, with treetops painted in crimson red, burnt orange and sun-kissed yellow hues. But Mother Nature isn’t the only one celebrating the autumn’s spirit.
The Stillwater Spa at the Hyatt Regency on Goat Island rolled out their Fall 2009 Harvest Treatments. They had our attention at four simple words: warm cider body scrub. The crème de la crème of this seasonal specials is the Harvest Ritual. Here’s how the spa describes it:
Your journey begins with an autumn leaf clove scented foot soak accompanied by our signature harvest tea. Under the warm cascade of our Vichy shower, you will experience a sense of balance of the mind and spirit during a warm cider body scrub. You will then be transported to a warm, orange-scented cocoon where you will receive an exfoliating pumpkin facial to brighten up dry dull skin. Your journey continues with a Harvest Moon massage the incorporates harvest-scented eye pillows and mulling spiced essential oils incorporating long, flowing strokes that release tension and stress. Your journey is now complete. You are ready to face the swirling leaves of life.
This all-complete treatment lasts three hours and costs $265. Other seasonal (and less costly) treatments in the Harvest Moon Massage (50 minutes /$125), the Pumpkin Facial (50 minutes /$125), a Pomegranate & Fig Manicure (50 minutes/$55) and finally, the Autumn Leaf Padicure (80 minutes /$80). Think this kind of pampering is geared toward Hyatt guests? Think again. Locals are always welcome, and at the Stillwater, rewarded: the spa offers a 20% locals discount Monday through Thursday, and follwing any 50 min. spa treatment, guests have full use of the pool, sauna rooms, and fitness center.
