When checking out the third and final installment of the William Heydt exhibit, Newportant People, last weekend at the Newport Art Museum (on display at the through April 4th), I couldn’t help but notice the common denominator of many of Heydt’s subjects is their expression of personal style. From a cacophony of color expressed through body art to the engaging confidence across the face of local author and Newport personality Muriel Barclay de Tolly, personal style is about more than just what you wear. Yves Saint Laurent once said, “Fashions fade, style is eternal.” Fortunately, Newport and Bristol Counties affords hundreds of outlets to express your personal style, whether it’s indulging the expert tailoring of Katie Brierley’s Isoude line at her Bellevue Avenue boutique or a donning a Mad Men-inspired vintage dress from Vintage to Vogue or Closet Revival on Broadway or a timeless Chanel jacket at a virtual steal at Wish on Thames Street. Embrace your personal style and challenge yourself to try something new, who knows what new favorite things you’ll find?
