Nasty weather? No problem for the talent and treasure you’ll find at the 6th Annual Spring Newport Artisans Fair. Held at the Newport Elks Club of the corner of Bellevue Avenue and Pelham Street, the fair, which is free admission, starts today, runs through 5 p.m. and continues tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nearly 30 of the region’s best-known artisans and artists proffer fashion, jewelry, hats, bags and accessories, pottery, home frills, stained glass, hand-crafted surfboards, artwork and more, along with bakers, growers and producers from local farmers’ markets join together while attendees make one discover after another. Exhibitors include M. H. Preston Design, C.L. Sherman & Company, pb Glass Art, Simply Patrice, Starry Eyes Stained Glass Designs, Sunny Windows, Savoir Faire, Suegray Seaglass Jewelry, Pea Pods, Heart to Heart Mazes, Alicia Nicole Designs, Lone Orchid, NR Designs and more.
I have my eye on Newport-themed glass pendants, earrings and cufflinks by Sweet Maddie’s by Madeline Polss (pictured above). As well-known photographer who has shot for everything from Food & Wine to Gourmet (RIP Gourmet) to Working Mother Magazine, it’s a natural fit for this locally-based creative eye to foster other creative talents.
