Well, Haute Dog!

Haute hounds and their owners are welcome to join Newport’s four-legged social set for the 2nd Annual Howl-o-ween Stroll for the Dogs tomorrow (October 30th). The stroll starts at Wag Nation on William Street at noon and continues along tony Bellevue Avenue, stopping for trick or treating at retailers aloing the way. Prizes will be awarded for best costume, most creative costume and best canine/human coordinated costumes (but dogs and owners in everyday dress are welcomed as well).

All well behaved, leashed dogs are welcome. Following the stroll, there will be bobbing for tennis balls and treats for canines and companions on the patio at Wag Nation.

Wag Nation is located at 92 William Street in Newport.

Retro Rest & Haute Hangovers

So it was hovering below 50° on Friday night, and today it’s a balmy 61° in Newport, pushing 70° in Providence. Is it any wonder coughs and colds are going around left and right?!?! I was at Bellevue Beauty Walk on Bowen’s Wharf after a delightful lunch at Diego’s (which, if you haven’t been, you’re missing out…hello, Baja aioli), and saw these adorable retro ice bags—perfect to perk up any of your infirmed family and friends (and they’re just 15 bucks)! Designed by Gal Pal and with more than a dozen adorable designs, these are just too cute. Considering the ramp up to Saturday’s Halloween’s parties, the pictured martini-themed version might be perfect to nurse those open-bar blues that might linger Sunday….

I also couldn’t help but notice the great Tepper Jackson weekend bag in the window! “Its’ generous size holds all of your necessary cosmetic and hair products that keep you looking fabulous while jet-setting. And don’t just keep it packed away in your luggage, take it out on the town and show off your unique sense of style,” boasts the designer’s web site about the (pictured) Aurora Gold bag, and frankly, I couldn’t have said it better myself. It can be yours (and hopefully mine) for $64.

Not to Miss Halloween Bashes in Newport…And Where to Get Your Garb

With less than a week ‘til All Hallow’s Eve, the race is on to fashion a fun costume for the festivities, most of which are scheduled to take place this coming Saturday night (see below for the 411 on Newport bashes). There’s a ton of places to get some costume inspiration, starting with the colorful wigs, make-up, Red Cherry lashes and accessories spotted at Cosmetic Cosmos (and a whole new shipment arrived today!). The best part is the skilled make-up artists down there take the how-to out of the equation by getting you as glamorous or ghoulish as you like (and anyone who’s ever wrestled with eyelash glue will tell you, it’s a pleasure to have someone else do the heavy lifting). Call 842-0666 to make an appointment~

Of course, funky frocks can be found at Closet Revival (fab vintage finds — Mad Men, anyone? Betty Draper would make a beautiful costume!) and don’t forget the Salvation Army shop at 76 Broadway for bargain basement duds. I found my costume last year at Wish, which must have brought me some luck when I won the costume contest at Christie’s! And for fans of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, The Great Gatsby or just your average Joe and Jane Roarin’ 20s, Vintage to Vogue, fresh off their move from Broadway to Lower Thames, reports a ton of 20s flapper-style dresses (a la Kim Kardashian and Lauren Conrad, pictured at left)  in stock, plus accessories including long cigarette holders, vintage jewelery and feather-festooned headpieces. For the guys, don a 20s, 30s or 40s-inspired hat, and Vintage to Vogue has a handful of costumes for little ones.

What better way to wrap Sunday Funday in Newport than with a fund-raising ghoulish fashion show featuring local looks? With hair and make-up by Curl Up & Dye and the fabulous Closet Revival providing freakish, fall-inspired frocks (Halloween is only a week away…), The Pelham plays host to the Freak Show Fashion Fundraiser this evening of fun and philanthropy for just $10 – with proceeds going to a local family in need. Music and entertainment by DJ Butch and Jackie Henderson’s Off the Curb dance troupe. The event is from 5pm-10pm, and yes, TVs will be tuned to the Pats game….

All Dressed Up…

I stopped by Kristina Richards last week and there are a TON of great dresses by Milly and more that you can glam up with sleek, bare legs and a fabulous heel (there’s some fun pairs at Ooh! Ooh! Shoes at Brick Market Place) or dress down with tights (solid or funky – depending on the dress’s fabric and pattern) and a tall boot. Sole Desire had a ton of Frye boots and more, or get even more swanky with a pair of fab Tory Burch boots at Michael Hayes. Eye-catching designs include the trendy “shootie” in black patent leather and the sexy sporty Halima bootie in a bold leopard print (below).

Fall….Fashion & Fun!

Colorful scarves, classic capes and riding boots aplenty—even though fall officially arrived last month, we were blessed with some Indian summer temperatures over the past few weeks. It seems, however, that it’s time to trade the polos for warmers duds and Angela Moore is making the transition easy by hosting a season-celebratory Trunk Show at her Bellevue Avenue boutique tomorrow, Thursday, October 21st from 6-8pm, and all are invited.

Angela will be on hand to show you “what’s new, what’s now & what’s WOW!” during this evening of terrific trends and classic favorites featuring fabulous frocks by designers Melly M, Julie Brown, Fornash, Big Buddha, Claudia Nichole Cashmere, Two Bees by Whitney Tremaine, Kara Janx, Jack Rogers and she will be introducing Newport’s own Kimberly Pucci who has launched a stunning line of handbags.

Guests will receive 20% off all purchases tomorrow evening plus pink champagne and pink cupcakes in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pieces from the Angela Moore Pink Ribbon Collection will also be for sale with 15% of proceeds be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

We wrote about PrAna back in July and its super soft cotton! Receive 15% off all purchases made at the trunk show (including special orders). There will be sips & nibbles provided by the Newport Wine Cellar & le Petit Gourmet.
