With less than a week ‘til All Hallow’s Eve, the race is on to fashion a fun costume for the festivities, most of which are scheduled to take place this coming Saturday night (see below for the 411 on Newport bashes). There’s a ton of places to get some costume inspiration, starting with the colorful wigs, make-up, Red Cherry lashes and accessories
spotted at Cosmetic Cosmos (and a whole new shipment arrived today!). The best part is the skilled make-up artists down there take the how-to out of the equation by getting you as glamorous or ghoulish as you like (and anyone who’s ever wrestled with eyelash glue will tell you, it’s a pleasure to have someone else do the heavy lifting). Call 842-0666 to make an appointment~
Of course, funky frocks can be found at Closet Revival (fab vintage finds — Mad Men, anyone? Betty Draper would make a beautiful costume!) and don’t forget the Salvation Army shop at 76 Broadway for bargain basement duds. I found my costume last year at Wish, which must have brought me some luck when I won the costume contest at Christie’s! And for fans of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, The Great Gatsby or just your average Joe and Jane Roarin’ 20s, Vintage to Vogue, fresh off their move from Broadway to Lower Thames, reports a ton of 20s flapper-style dresses (a la Kim Kardashian and Lauren Conrad, pictured at left) in stock, plus accessories including long cigarette holders, vintage jewelery and feather-festooned headpieces. For the guys, don a 20s, 30s or 40s-inspired hat, and Vintage to Vogue has a handful of costumes for little ones.
