I was scouting for a magazine’s holiday style section last month (more on that when it publishes…) and was delighted to come across a selection of Jules Reid pieces at the Pink Pineapple in Portsmouth. I’ve been following the innovative designer for quite sometime as she’s from Virginia and her bright and bold Lilly Pulitzer-meets- bohemian chic aesthetic is quintessential Newport.
Reid launched her professional career as a broker on Wall Street, but finally pursued her passion by opening an interior design firm, which explains her passion for prints. Her line has landed enviable press coverage, including Lucky magazine, and seems there’s no place but up for the designer. I missed her Spring 2011 par ty hosted by WSJ Magazine during New York Fashion Week (which unfortunately clashed with the Rhode Island primaries) but the pics I saw were amazing. But that’s spring, so in the present, we can enjoy the Augustus Dress (above, left), the Mae dress (above, right) and the charming Virginia tunic (above, center) carried by Portsmouth’s Pink Pineapple in Clock Tower Square (which also has Newport’s Thames Street location).
Did the Newport Body Bar go out of business
As far as I know, it did. The retail location at 99 Spring Street is for rent…
