Newporter Mary Haite, most recently known for her very much missed American Beauty boutique, has returned to her fashion roots representing Etcetera, a luxury clothing trunk show line for women. Haite has enjoyed a solid Etcetera customer base for five years but is widening the line’s availability by opening a pop-up shop next week at 78 Thames Street (former home to Gifted, before that, Rue de France – hey, this is how most directions are offered in Newport!). The high-end direct clothing sales approach is a nationwide trend seen with many upscale brands, and Haite said Etcetera’s appeal is in the line’s look and fit. “The are flattering pieces shaped for women—everything is seamed and darted,” she explains. “They’re the type pieces that when you wear them, women ask ‘Where did you get that?’”
Haite says the majority of her clients prefer to book an appointment so they can have a one-on-one (or small group) private shopping experience, though she plans on having the pop-up’s doors open to the public roughly 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. for the shop’s10-day run. Shoppers then order whatever they like and pieces are shipped to them directly. We’ll update readers on the exact days Etcetera will be open. (Appointments can be made via Mary at 256-2594).
Tomorrow we’ll be featuring another holiday season pop-up shop. Stay tuned…
