I first chatted with Sarah Quick (above) last April (read it here!) as she was expanding her Modern Shades of Grey line of eclectic and “up-cycled” jewelry, a mostly fabric-based collection of handmade bracelets, necklaces, scarves and hair accessories. Most recently we crossed paths at StyleWeek Providence, where she showcased her pieces to an invite-only crowd of fashion industry folks including designers, buyers, stylists, writers and bloggers. Modern Shades of Grey caught the eye of many, but none more than Real Housewife of New York City and StyleWeek ambassador, Alex McCord. “I had always admired her style–she is very willing to take risks,” says Quick. “She had wanted to see a few items from the accessory designers, so a few pairs were brought to her dressing room for her. It was an honor to have her choose a pair earrings from our new line! Afterward she told us she had a hard time deciding which earrings she wanted because she loved them all!”
This weekend, Sarah unveils Modern Shades of Grey’s “Gris” collection, the line McCord chose from, made from vintage, sometimes one-of-a-kind beads, at a trunk show hosted at Rachel Lessne’s Green Envy Eco-Boutique in Newport. “Modern Shades of Grey is a breath of fresh air,” describes Rachel. She calls the pieces that Sarah collaborates on with her mother Mary Anne “classic yet surprising,” adding there is something for everyone. “And with prices under $30, you can’t go wrong!”
The trunk show is open to the public on Saturday, March 5th, 11-7 p.m. Shop while sipping refreshments and cupcakes by Newport’s Queenie’s Cakes and Confections. All attendees will be entered to win a pair of the increasingly coveted fish earrings, and discounts will be offered throughout Green Envy’s merchandise.
