Since Child & Family unveiled the inaugural Ophelia’s Wardrobe fundraiser in 2007, fashionistas throughout Newport, Boston and beyond have marked the chic event on their must-do calendar. The social service agency, which earns the distinction of being the oldest in Newport County, reaches out every other year to stylish socialites throughout the area asking them to open their closet doors and donate from their personal wardrobe for a two-day sale in one of Newport’s mansions. Racks stocked with names including Gucci, Givenchy, Yves St. Laurent, Chanel, Lilly Pulitzer, Tory Burch and more form a fashionable store with amazing prices—all to benefit the amazing work and programs for girls and young women by Child & Family. Case in point: in 2009, I picked up a stunning, floor-length Armani coat for $90. Oh, and did I mention the rows and
rows of shoes and handbags?!?
This year’s Ophelia’s Wardrobe is right around the corner, June 10-11, 2011. In addition to the stylish pieces, select clothing from the personal collection of late heiress Doris Duke (Guy Laroche, Valentino, YSL, Bill Blass, etc.) will be featured.
For the first time ever, Ophelia’s Wardrobe has partnered with the talented team behind StyleWeek Providence. At the Opening Night Preview and Cocktail Party, gala-goers will take in a runway show and be able to custom order original pieces from StyleWeek designers Andrea Valentini, Avni Trivedi, Jessica Abernethy, Jennifer Greeke, Jonathan Joseph Peters and Samuel Vartan while dining on hors d’oeuvres and sipping cocktails from the open bar. Tickets start at $100, click here for details.
The public is invited to shop on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Ophelia’s Wardrobe will unfold at Ochre Court on the Salve Regina University campus in Newport, located at 100 Ochre Point Avenue. For more information, visit Child & Family by clicking here.
