As Fashion Week unfolds in the Big Apple, and Fashion Night Out is celebrated at shops and boutiques nationwide (here in Newport at J. McLaughlin), it’s an interesting time for fall collections as celebrity-backed, affordable lines are popping up everywhere you look. Here’s a breakdown:
Mad Men Collection at Banana Republic
Literally days after I read about this small but chic collection, the windows at the local Banana Republic were showcasing the looks inspired by this popular, 60s-era show. Created by BR and the show’s Emmy-winning Costume Designer Janie Bryant, the collection boasts nearly 65 pieces of for men and women, plus accessories. For him, look for knit sweaters, tailored suit separates, fitted trousers and ties (and Mad Men accessories including money clips, cotton pocket squares, tie bars and fedoras). For the ladies: tailored dresses, high-waisted skirts, silk tie-neck blouses and a chic trench coat (accessories include print scarves and fabulous leopard print heels). Available online and in stores now.
Missoni for Target
One of the most anticipated designer collections for Target in recent history, the iconic zigzag patterned Missoni collection includes 400 pieces for men, women, children, accessories, home décor and bike (that celebs are buzzing about)! I’ve seen the look book and it’s signature Missoni, there are some great pieces including an amazing shift dress (that would be great with tights), a must-have clutch, and fun shoes. Missioni for Target hits stores and online September 13.
I never imagined Karl Lagerfeld would put his name one something affordable, but proved wrong, I checked out the 45-piece collection and it’s simple with some real standouts. Mostly comprised of black and white pieces with a few dashes of color for women, there are varying textures including tweed and faux leather items priced from $50 to $170. Available online and in stores now.
Donatella does is discount-style for the legendary low-priced retailer. Leather, prints, color, and Versace’s signature Greek and Roman influence punctuates the collection for men and women that will be available November 19th in 300 stores (Providence may or may not be one of the selected locations).
She dies. After years of being on celebs’ speed dial, the stick-thin stylist has created her own collection she says has been designed for four different girls: “the Parisian Girl, a girl who may have never been to Paris herself, but dreams of what it would be like to travel there, she watches old films and looks through vintage magazines, she is always dressed to impress; the Charlie Girl, she is a confident woman inspired by the star of the iconic perfume ads from the 70s, her look is androgynous and sexy without being revealing; the Downtown/London Girl who epitomizes ‘London cool’ with a love of fashion and willingness to take risks. She is playful and often mixes 60s glamour with sophisticated and elegant sexiness; and the Uptown Girl, who is mature and sophisticated but loves to have fun. She juxtaposes effortless gowns or tweeds and tuxedos with everyday pieces.” Thankfully, her “fur” pieces are all faux (way to go, RZ)! Available now at Nieman Marcus, Shopbop.com, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales and more and retails for $150.00-$575.00.
