This amazing nautical look is what happens when preppy style meets eco-friendly fabric. Made of 100% GOTS Certified Organic Cotton and dyed with low-impact dyes, this super-comfy, all-occasion dress by Synergy is one of those summer staples you pair with flats for a day of shopping or sky-high wedges for a night on the town. The boat neck and knee-length hemline make for a sophisticated look while the figure flattering attached belt can tie in back or wrap around to one side. So just think: adding this piece to your summer line-up will both boost your wardrobe and environmental responsibility.
In a continually-connected, digital world, it’s important to relax, unwind and unplug, even if just for a little while. This afternoon, two great brands that seemed to have mastered the philosophy of beautiful living collaborate for A Day of Beauty.
Join Brenda Brock, founder, formulator and CEO of locally-owned, globally known skin care line Farmaesthetics, and her talented team of licensed beauty experts to experience what Town & Country magazine calls “Cream of the Crop” at Castle Hill Inn from 3-5pm. Learn about the importance of truly natural skincare and the profound benefits of sustainable beauty (seriously, have you ever read the ingredients on your lotions and potions? How much of it can you pronounce?). A long-time fan of Farmaesthetics, I wrote this feature for the Winter 2010 issue of Edible Rhody magazine and really came to understand Brenda’s extraordinary approach, and I’m not alone. Farmaesthetics is used and sold in some of the best spas and resort hotels in the world, and it’s invented and created right here in our community.
Enjoy this complimentary event featuring live demos, afternoon tea, infused waters and a juice bar. Visit A Day of Beauty’s Facebook event page here and call Stephanie at Castle Hill Inn at 401-324-4508 for reservations.
Wide belts, or cummerbund belts, as they are sometimes called, graced the Spring 2012 runways of designers Alexander McQueen, Diane Von Furstenberg and more, and it’s no surprise you can find them just about everywhere—the waist-cinching accessory is universally flattering. In and around Newport, you’ll find a diverse selection at all different price points. J. McLaughlin has leather belts with brass detailing, anchor, bamboo and u-hook closures, equestrian inspired styles, and natural elements including linen and hemp fabrics ($65-$95). There’s a variety at Francesca’s Collections at Long Wharf Mall at wallet-friendly, affordable prices (around $18). A few storefronts down, you’ll find more at J. Crew on the Harbor (avg. $55) and at Brick Market Place, Brooks Brothers has a beautiful two-tone style perfect for summer ($68). Let us know if you’ve spotted more around town! firstname.lastname@example.org

Real Housewife of New York, model and designer Kelly Bensimon took advantage of the extraordinary spring weather this past weekend and headed to Newport for an overnight mother/daughter escape. The two lounged in luxury at the divine Vanderbilt Grace (if you haven’t sipped their signature cocktail, be sure to put it on your to-do list, preferably enjoyed on the rooftop deck), enjoyed shopping at Sole Desire, massages at the hotel spa, and dining at Muse, The Landing and the Black Pearl. “The last time I was in Newport, I was modeling for Elle magazine on America’s Cup Stars and Stripes,” she Tweeted.
I asked her this week what her impression was of Newport since it’s been quite a while since she’s been, and she answered, “My daughter and I loved living the nautical American dream at the Vanderbilt Grace in Newport!”

Blame it on my recent obsession with chevron stripes, but I adore this colorful hard cell phone case by Case-Mate that can be personalized with your monogram. Spotted at Papers on Bellevue Avenue, a monogrammed case is $58 and turnaround time is just ten days! (Available for iPhone 4 / 4S, iPhone 3G / 3GS and many more.) You might just have to have to make one your own on the upcoming Bellevue Avenue Business Association Spring Stroll!
