Designer and author Lauren Conrad first caught the public eye as a fun-loving burgeoning fashionista on MTV’s Laguna Beach. Fans followed her adventures on Conrad’s spinoff hit, The Hills, which, in addition to documenting her love life and friendship drama, traced her experiences while attending LA’s Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM).
After gaining some industry know how while interning at Teen Vogue and fashion PR house People’s Revolution, Conrad was inspired to launch her own fashion line, LC Lauren Conrad, in collaboration with Kohl’s department stores.

But it’s Conrad’s recently released collection, Paper Crown, that’s caught my eye. Not only are the pieces chic, refreshing and affordable, they each bare nautically-influenced names or take a cue from local coastal communities, including Newport, Jamestown, Nantucket, Providence and more. I wanted to find out more about what inspired the designer to name her pieces after coastal enclaves in our neck of the woods, so I asked Conrad and here’s what she told me:
NS: What is the inspiration behind the Paper Crown line, and how does it differ from other collections you’ve has designed? paper crown is a collection that I passionately design. I love the femininity of the collection but also the versatility of the pieces as well. There is a style for every occasion; party dresses for a night out, blouses that can be worn to the office or dressed up and paired with a beautiful skirt.
Thanks, Lauren! Readers–see the Newport, Jamestown, Nantucket pieces and more below, and to see the collection in its entirety, CLICK HERE.
