A leading fair trade artisan jewelry line, Faire Collection (formerly The Andean Collection) accessories are designed in New York and handcrafted by artisans in Ecuador. I wore the above Catalina necklace when Christmas shopping in downtown Newport this past Saturday afternoon. It’s made of tagua and pambil seeds, and sustainably harvested wood. One of the things I like the most about the line, besides being viable and helping third-world artisans with every purchase, is that most pieces can be worn during any season. The Catalina, for example, pairs perfectly with a simple tank in the summer or adds a pop of color when paired with a crisp white tunic.
Green Envy Eco-Boutique, located at 8 Franklin Street in Newport, carries select Faire Collection pieces. To see and shop the entire collection, or get a Faire Collection e-gift card (they make great last minute gifts), CLICK HERE.
Disclosure: Faire Collection provided be with a sample Catalina necklace to experience the texture and quality of the brand.
I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who thinks that with all the great sales this time of year, it’s hard not to pick up a little something for yourself. Whether you’re shopping for someone special, need to make a wish list, or if you deserve a little bauble for not making the naughty list this year, you might want to stop by Jason & Co. on Thames Street. Last night, my girlfriends and I pretty much finished our Christmas shopping. With pieces starting as low as $12, there’s something shimmery for every budget. And the 50% off island in the middle of the store has some amazing ‘inspired-by’ pieces that have Tory Burch, Cartier, Judith Ripka and Van Cleef & Arpels similar designs. Without further adieu:
Jason & Co. is located at 182 Thames Street, across from Brooks Brothers.
Unless you’re in the tax bracket that takes the “Lexus December to Remember Sales Event” seriously, you probably have a budget to keep ion mind as you Christmas shop. That’s why I’ve highlighted some fab affordable stocking stuffers you can find in Newport that I think any gift getter would be happy to unwrap.
“They have like, vintage Chanel, Gucci; you know–good stuff!” is all my friend TS had to say to me last week to get my attention. They were talking about Epoch, a new vintage shop located in the front right space at Newport’s Armory Antiques Marketplace (aka “the Armory”) on Thames Street. I paid a visit soon after and found some awesome gems in this small shop including a vintage Diane Von Furstenburg dress, classic Hermes scarf and a vintage Zippo lighter from an America’s Cup race (a little pricy as these lighters are collector’s items). It’s not uncommon to be totally stumped as to what to give to some friends and family for Christmas, and The Armory has some unexpected one-of-a-kind finds. Check it out:
And from around The Armory:
What shopper whose made a list and checked it twice doesn’t want a great gift at a bargain price??? Two great sale events and a stroll round out the weekend. Here’s the scoop:
Also kicking off tonight is Critter Glitter at the Potter League. Here’s the deal: you know Sequin, the awesome jewelry and accessory shops on Bellevue Avenue and Thames Street?? At the Potter League, you can purchase with a purpose–all Sequin pieces at great prices. I think what is so great, besides the major discounts and the fact that 100% OF THE SALES BENEFIT THE SHELTER, is that there’s literally something for every lady—little girly girls, trendy gals and the sophisticated woman. So instead of trekking to Nordstrom or Henri Bendel, you just have to pop up to Middletown! Opening Night Sale, December 6 (Friday) from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. Refreshments will be served. Showroom Hours: December 7 – 15 from 10am-5pm (except December 11, from 10am-7pm.
Then on Saturday, enjoy the Franklin Street Stroll, where merchants will have their doors open, refreshments flowing and a jolly good time:
