Throughout the weeks leading up to Christmas, I’ll be shining the local shopping spotlight on fabulous local finds in and around Newport that may just be the perfect gift for that impossible shop for person. Today I am kicking off the season by highlighting something I wouldn’t mind finding under my own tree…an Irish sweater. Here’s the thing: the Irish sweater has come a long way. As a second generation Irish girl, I’ve been wrapped in these sometimes itchy, always cream-colored winter staples since a wee lass, but today’s Irish sweaters can be pure luxe.
Around town you’ll find some great Irish sweaters at Ireland Calls (naturally), Potter & Co., Chace N’ Lulu and Monelle. Some of these shops carry the line Fisherman Out of Ireland, which in full disclosure, I have a soft spot for because they’re made in Donegal, Ireland, where one of my grandparents are from. But here’s the thing: Fisherman Out of Ireland makes some awesome sweaters, wraps, hats and accessories. Because the pieces are fine quality, they’re not inexpensive, but they’re the kind of pieces that last for ages and are classic additions to your wardrobe. Here’s a Fisherman Out of Ireland knit hat for $58 from Monelle (across from Clarke Cooke House):
Oh, and did you know you can enjoy a complimentary glass of wine at the Clarke Cooke House with a receipt that shows you shopped at a Bannister’s Wharf shop? Tell me that doesn’t sweeten the local shopping deal?! I’m also loving this Irish sweater cape from Potter & Co.:
Hi Andrea Please come by this week to see everything and bring friends! Lisa

Thanks! Cheers!
No, I don’t think you understand – I MUST HAVE THAT HAT! 😉
I super love it too! At $58, it’s a little pricier than your average winter hat but its genuine Irish wool and a great line;)
