To say Newport has a long history with bath and body products is a wild understatement. Caswell-Massey, America’s original purveyor of luxury personal care products and accessories, was founded here by Dr. William Hunter in 1752, originally as Dr. Hunter’s Apothecary. I edited a magazine piece years ago that if I recall, identified the current location of Starbucks at 212 Thames Street (I’ll have to check now!) as the original Caswell Massey shop.
So when Soap & Water opened earlier this year on Bowen’s Wharf, the bath and body shop, whether intentional or not, continued a centuries-old legacy in the City by the Sea. The charming shop, which welcomes shoppers with a light, soothing scent (in lieu of overpowering fragrance which can happen far too easily), presents a modern, clean interior design and beloved brands including Tocca (fragrance and candles), Crabtree & Evelyn, Molton Brown (shower gels, hand washes, lotions, mens grooming), Sedafrance (candles, mists, diffusers, liquid hand soaps and bar soap) and specifically for men, Jack Black, Recipe for Men, Musgo Real, and coming full circle, Caswell Massey.
Additional fab finds include candles, perfumes, colognes, luxury waffle robes, rich towels, cover-ups, gifts, and home accessories. Visit the shop at 16 Bowen’s Wharf or follow them on Facebook by CLICKING HERE.

LOVE the Sea Salt Candle as the perfect little gift. It’s a hand-poured candle made of salts naturally derived from sea water.
