In the south of France in 1976, Olivier Baussan began to distill rosemary essential oil to sell in the local markets of Provence. Using an old soap factory, he revived the traditional art of Marseille soap-making and unknowingly launched a global brand. Fifteen years later, Baussan’s first L’OCCITANE boutique opened in Paris on Rue Vavin.Today, there are shops in more than 90 countries and this weekend, L’OCCITANE en Provence opens on Newport’s Long Wharf.
The shop carries multiple L’OCCITANE-crafted collections for men and women including skin care, fragrance, bath and body, haircare and gifts made with natural botanicals including their Signature Shea Butter Hand Cream and Immortelle anti-aging skincare products.Though it would be fabulous to jet off to Paris on a whim, right now most of us will have to settle for exploring this store and celebrating it’s charming storefront, signature red tiled floor, wrought iron and raw wood furniture, and signature yellow, orange and blue colors.
Visit L’OCCITANE en Provence on Long Wharf today! Au revoir!

For someone who tries to log some running miles each week (or moderately jogging, depending on how you look at it), this is a cardinal sin. The thing was, my old kicks were in bad shape and I didn’t have the time or patience to page through online sites and user reviews to find the best pair for my running style, my preferences and my budget. The pair I picked up will soon transition to regular ol’ sneakers because thankfully, Newport has it’s first store officially dedicated to performance wear and sneakers.
Run Newport opened today at Long Wharf Mall with an apropos 3-mile fun run led by Anchor Leg Coaching to celebrate. Brands carried by the shop include:
