Bienvenue à Newport, L’OCCITANE en Provence

Loccitane-Cherry-Blossom-Hand-Cream-Lotion8In the south of France in 1976, Olivier Baussan began to distill rosemary essential oil to sell in the local markets of Provence. Using an old soap factory, he revived the traditional art of Marseille soap-making and unknowingly launched a global brand. Fifteen years later, Baussan’s first L’OCCITANE boutique opened in Paris on Rue Vavin.Today, there are shops in more than 90 countries and this weekend, L’OCCITANE en Provence opens on Newport’s Long Wharf.

The shop carries multiple L’OCCITANE-crafted collections for men and women including skin care, fragrance, bath and body, haircare and gifts made with natural botanicals including their Signature Shea Butter Hand Cream and Immortelle anti-aging skincare products.Though it would be fabulous to jet off to Paris on a whim, right now most of us  will have to settle for exploring this store and celebrating it’s charming storefront, signature red tiled floor, wrought iron and raw wood furniture, and signature  yellow, orange and blue colors.

Visit L’OCCITANE en Provence  on Long Wharf today! Au revoir!

Pound the Pavement and Make Room for RUN NEWPORT

imagesConfession: I bought running sneakers at Marshall’s last month. For someone who tries to log some running miles each week (or moderately jogging, depending on how you look at it), this is a cardinal sin. I even have friends in the athletic footwear industry, which makes the sin even more grave. The thing was, my old kicks were in bad shape and I didn’t have the time or patience to page through online sites and user reviews to find the best pair for my running style, my preferences and my budget. The pair I picked up will soon transition to regular ol’ sneakers because thankfully, Newport has it’s first 11081307_705991282842954_3374230758217163865_nstore officially  dedicated to performance wear and sneakers.

Run Newport opened today at Long Wharf Mall with an apropos 3-mile fun run led by Anchor Leg Coaching to celebrate. Brands carried by the shop include:

Brooks (footwear and apparel) #1 running shoe brand
Asics (footwear and apparel)
New Balance (footwear)
Saucony (footwear and apparel)
The North Face (apparel)
Hoka One One (footwear)
Mizuno (footwear and apparel)
Owners Jessica Leporacci Stadel  and husband Adam Stadel, who many people have come to know as the dynamic duo behind Sole Desire in Newport’s Brick Market Place, are also looking to carry Moving Comfort sports bras, Garmin, Feetures, Nathan, CamelBak, Merrell, Keen and more. 11142418_730418930400189_8209933025108934967_n
“We are catering to runners and none runners,” says Jessica. “We will have a treadmill so customers can test out their shoes! We hope to be the go to spot for athletic footwear, apparel and accessories on the island. We will carry a broad spectrum of products for the serious marathon runner to the casual walker.”

Run Newport is located at 16 Long Wharf South (next to Edible Arrangements).
