I had heard about Lululemon, like many folks, for quite a while before I found myself actually inside one of these fitness-meets-hipness outposts. The technical wear for yoga, running, tennis, working out, and as the company says, “most other sweaty pursuits,” is known for attractive designs and snug, performance fits. I wandered into their Soho shop when I had left a running top behind in Newport and was sold on the well-reviewed Swiftly Tech long sleeve top, so I made it my own and left with it in the
ubiquitous red reusable shopping-turned-lunch bag emblazoned with inspirational adages.
Today, “Luluheads,” as the devout followers of the brand are called, can be found around the world, and now, local Luluheads will be delighted to learn of the Lululemon Newport Pop Up Shop on William Street (in the space formerly occupied by Wish, which moved to lower Thames).
It hardly has the feel of a pop-up shop as there is a nice amount of diverse pieces for men and women stocked all around the contemporary, coastal-designed space. Though intended to be seasonal, Lululemon fits seamlessly into Newport’s retail and recreational community. It’s placed directly next door to Newport Power Yoga’s Studio B, the donation based class space offering gentle yoga (great for kids, beginners or anyone…20% of monthly profits going to a local charity), and steps away from bustling Bellevue Avenue. So I am sure I speak for many Newporters when I say I hope the shop gets comfortable and sticks around a while
