dry_skin_care_in_winter

Let’s start with the good news: it’s been unseasonably warm up until about now. But let’s face it: December is less than 10 days away. It will be cold soon enough and eventually, your skin will react to the fluctuating outdoor freeze meets fireside swelter. Here are some seasonal skin remedies from local expects to get you through the deep freeze.

1. Image Skincare Vital C Mask from The Apothecary. The team at The Apothecary can barely keep this baby in stock! Using gentle enzymes to exfoliate dead skin cells while adding minerals and essential anti-oxidants to improve your skin’s overall health, you will look like a light has been turned on under your skin and feel super are Escentuals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Creamhydrated after this mask treatment. Use as a manual exfoliator to increase cell turnover rate without any abrasion or leave on as a masque to refresh and revitalize. $32

2. Bare Escentuals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream. The Apothecary’s co-owner Jenni Graham personally recommends this product for people with drier skin who like luminous, glowing finishes and a “natural” look. “It makes your skin appear younger. Even if you don’t feel as confident at first because of the light coverage, I promise you will get compliments if applied correctly!” This mineral-based cream combines the best of a BB, a CC, and a tinted moisturizer to provide increased skin hydration after just one week. $29 (9 shades)

The Apothecary is currently running a special and offering deluxe samples of both these products the month of November while supplies last.

Style Find: Alaina Marie Bait Bag Clutch

Alaina marie clutch

Stylish AND sustainable (win-win!), I spotted the super cute Alaina Maria bait bag clutch at Island Outfitters and it’s officially on my holiday wish list. Handmade in Maine and inspired by a lobsterman’s bait bag (and constructed from the same marine-grade material) the clutches are colorful, convenient and durable. Though you can find them at places like J. Crew and Anthropologie, you’ll make a greater community impact by buying them local at Island Outfitters (and if you get/sign up for their e-newsletters, you’ll likely see a discount promo, like 20% off, come across sooner or later!)

Newporters Grace “The Salonniere 100” List

207Last month, I received a delightful surprise in my inbox: an email from Cindy Young Vanhoutte, an editor at The Salonniere. The editorial team at the site, which is dedicated exclusively to the art of party hosting, reached out in pursuit of nominations for extraordinary local party hostess for “The Salonniere 100” list. Specifically, the team asked “more than 1,000 of the cognoscenti across all 50 states for the names of the party hosts in their city who entertain with unparalleled skill and grace.”

5G615htpP77VjDoEhjipm25mSjaeJz3juZztcXnp6G4Naturally, Newport’s Bettie Bearden Pardee came to mind in an instant—she literally wrote the book on entertaining (actually, she wrote five). Accomplished author (read about her latest gem, Living Newport: Houses, People, Style, HERE), admired tastemaker, seasoned lecturer and treasured friend, Bettie graciously shares her hostessing handiwork and offers and insider’s guide to extraordinary events and interiors on her blog, Private Newport, in between book signings, entertaining, writing, gardening and traveling. So it was time to pop the proverbial champagne when we recently learned Bettie made “The List.”

“We’re delighted and not at all surprised that Bettie earned a spot on The Salonniere 100,” reflected Carla McDonald, The Salonniere’s founder and editor in chief. “She’s the epitome of grace, warmth and creativity when entertaining. And with a surname like Pardee, you know she was destined to be a great hostess.”

Joining Bettie on the list is well-known party-giver Cornelia Guest, American fashion designer Lela Rose and President and First Lady Obama.

“I don’t believe I’ve been on a list amongst President and First Lady Obama ever before!” Bettie told me. “Entertaining has been a way of life for me for as long as I can remember. In my family, growing up Southern wasbbp all about entertaining; if we weren’t planning a party we were enjoying memories of the last one or looking for an
excuse for the next. I am so honored to be included in The Salonniere 100.”

Pamela Fielder and David Ford, the Newport couple best known for their stunning home Miramar which was recently featured in THIS Wall Street Journal piece, also made the list.

THIS fabulous feature on Bettie was published on The Salonniere this past summer.

Congratulations!
