Two Fun Food Events for a Cause … and Paws

Two fab, fun food events are happening next week in Newport and should be on your radar: 

May 1^st: Stoneacre Garden’s 2nd Annual Charity Dog Show unfolds from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to benefit the Potter League for Animals. Contest Categories include:

• Prettiest B**ch
• Best Rescue (any dog that came from a shelter or rescue)
• Most Handsome
• Doggy/Owner look-a-like
• Cutest Puppy – Young Dog
• Best Veteran – Senior Dog
• Best In Show

Reserve a general admission ticket including lunch or a VIP Table for up to four guests to enjoy the day’s festivities and cheer on your favorite pup. Think your dog has what it takes? Also, if you saw my story on Chef Kevin O’Donnell at Giusto in the just-released spring issue of edible Rhody, then you know that this trailblazing restaurant is making an enviable impression on locals and visitors alike. I was delighted to learn that Giusto, along with their pals at fellow Newport hotspots Yagi Noodles, (read my story on Yagi Noodles here) TSK (more here), and Sup Dog Supper Club, are coming together for Restaurants For Relief on Monday, May 2nd at 9 p.m. to help support the humanitarian aid for the Ukraine. The culinary teams will be firing up some of their favorite snacks and Giusto’s bar team along with Stoneacre and Bar & Board will be slinging drinks made with their favorite Newport Craft spirts and brews. Hammetts  Hotel, Saltzman’s Watches and Holebrook of Sweden will be donating great swag for the silent auction. Tickets are $30 each and include snacks plus one drink (additional drinks can be purchased). 100% of the proceeds from the evening will be donated to one of my favorite organizations, World Central Kitchen, led by Chef Jose Andres who is helping feed those in need in the Ukraine (they’re serving nearly 300,000 meals in and around Ukraine daily).
