Summer is officially on our doorstep, and if you ask me, one of the best part of the season is making a summer reading list—not the ones from our school days that might conjure of memories of having to finish Kon-Tiki and The Canterbury Tales by Labor Day weekend (serious PTSD), but an indulgent mix of, at least for me, historical fiction, thrillers, and pages turners recommended from my fellow book lovers.
That’s why I have the evening of Thursday, July 13th circled on the calendar — and you should too. Reading with Robin, a statewide powerhouse in reading circles and book enthusiasts, will be hosting a summer soiree, An Evening with Summer Authors, at the Newport Art Museum, bringing together authors of three of the season’s hottest reads:
- Adrienne Brodeur, Little Monsters
- Megan Collins, Thicker Than Water
- Wendy Walker, What Remains
I’ve all three of these on. my radar, and now I have the motivation to get reading before this event!
Here’s a snapshot of what to expect:
6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Meet and greet the authors and mingle with wine and charcuteries from the Newport Wine Cellar
7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The authors will speak, take questions and sign copies of their respective books
The event benefits Newport’s extraordinary Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, which you might have noticed is in the midst of an outstanding, much-needed renovation and continues to better serve so many in our community.
Tickets range from $110 to $150, depending on how many books your purchase, and ALL of these options include the meet and greet reception with wine and light bites. It’s also important to note the books are from Curiosity & Co. in Jamestown, so sales support this amazing local bookstore across the bridge.
I’ve been to a number of Robin’s events, most recently one featuring inspiring litigator and advocate Rabia Chaudry, author of the newly released Fatty Fatty Boom Boom, and they’re always well organized, super welcoming (I went solo to see Rabia without a care in the world!) and most often, they sell out.
