OBSESSED: Twistbands!

ImageA few months ago, my BirchBox introduced me to Twistband, and my ponys haven’t been the same since. Twistband and Emi-Jay both make (pretty much the same) soft elastic hair ties that have amazing stretch, are snag-free and never leave the dreaded ponytail bump. There’s also a headband line made from the same material.

ImageSince they come in a ton of colors, metallics and patterns (like chevon and glitter!) they’ve also become a fashion statement, spotted on the wrists of celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow, Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Aniston. They’re slim, sleek and I have to confess, addictive. I just bought a new patch of Pink Pineapple (they make their own) and I’ve spotted them at Bellevue Beauty Walk.

Even though they’re inexpensive (ex. $9.99 for 10) and come in different quantities, they probably cost about three cents to make. AND, in an ironic “twist” of fate, Tori Johnson just featured a great promotion with Emi-Jay on today’s Deals & Steals on Good Morning America. Today only, enter promo code GMA on THIS EMI-JAY page and get 12 Emi-Jay hair ties and 2 headbands for $18 (normally $36).

You can also find these hot bands on Esty (like 14 band for $17 HERE), or even make your own with simple supplies from Michael’s crafts stores. CLICK HERE for an easy how-to video. Get your twist on!

Secret Santa? Check Out This Fab Find Under $50

How cute are these Lolo bags I spotted at Bellevue Beauty Walk? The little vinyl zip bags can be used as colorful clutches, cute pencil cases, or mighty fine makeup bags.

The majority of the selection at BBW is appropriately nautical-themed (when in Newport…), but to see the whole line, which includes martini glasses, Scottie dogs, bikinis, skulls & crossbones, pineapples, palm trees and more, CLICK HERE

Dangling Dazzlers

Jojo’s have long been known for the perfect bit of blings that can be worn day or night, but now Jojo introduces bling drop earrings! Just $30 – $35 at Bellevue Beauty Walk, these glistening glimmering eye candies come in stunning shades including lavender (shown) aqua, navy, silver, sapphire and a ton more. Just in time to catch the summer sun…

Are You Ready For Some Football?!

In a stroke of fortuitous coincidence, the New England Patriots and New York Giants share more than just an insatiable desire to fly home from Indy with the Vince Lombardi Trophy. They share the same team colors, which is making it mighty simple to appear completely impartial in this post (note both teams are represented donning in NFL gear in the pic above).

Whether you’re headed out on the town, parting with pals, or watching from the comfort of the couch, here are some fab local finds to get you into the spirit of the game (even if you’re most looking forward to the commercials)…

RED: Whether you prefer lipstick, lip stain, balm, gloss or plumper, there’s a great array of shades by Smashbox from ArchBeauty. To infuse a gentle touch of sun, try Stila’s ingenious blush-in-one Convertible Color from The Apothecary.

WHITE: Users of Bare Minerals swear by Well-Rested, the eye-brightening shadow base that conceals when you’re anything but. Another trick to look bright-eyed (even if was a hazy Saturday night) is a light sweep of Bare Minerals Snowflake shimmer eye shadow right below the brow line, found at The Apothecary.

BLUE: Bring the bling with glistening JoJo’s, seemingly Newport’s favorite sparkly stud., available in too many colors to count at Bellevue Beauty Walk. Add a little whimsy with blue nail color like Turquoise & Caicos, Lapiz of Luxury or Mezmerised by Essie at CVS.

Most make-up cited under $20, JoJo’s $30, Essie nail color $8.

Retail Redux ‘Round the Wharves

I’m fielding emails left and right about who is going where, who has closed, and who has opened. There’s a lot on the way, but in the interim, here’s the answers to some of the more pressing questions at hand.

Chace N’ Lulu did not close, I’m happy to report. It moved from it’s cozy, former location at 57 America’s Cup Avenue to it’s new digs just a stone’s throw away at 17 Bowen’s Wharf, which was once home to the Newport Candle Company. The shop is stocked with great summer pieces from Kara Janx, Susana Monaco, Brandy Melville (nautical striped dress pictured left), Kate Spade, Kontatto, Citizens of Humanity, Skirtin’ Around, Minnie Rose and more.

Bellevue Beauty Walk, which was indeed, once closer Bellevue on William Street, has jumped wharves. Goodbye old location on Bowen’s and hello new, pristine boutique at nearby 1 Bannisters Wharf. The shop has even more great pieces, including a jaw-dropping amount of JoJos (check out their new bangles below, right); in addition to essie nail polish (loving their new shade, ‘topless & barefoot’–so cute); Gretchen Scott cover-ups; an impressive display of GloMinerals makeup; fragrance, bath and body goods from Bliss, Fresh, Kai and Pacifica (love Pacifica) and amazing, affordable jewelry. Toast the shop’s official grand opening this Saturday, April 16. Call to book a free makeover with make-up artist (appointments 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.), Anna Cristino.

So who’s taken Bellevue Beauty Walk’s spot? A familiar name: Primavera. The home decor, jewelry and gift boutique knocked down some walls and expanded to create a spacious, warm and welcoming space. Find fun custom signs, Tea Forté’s gourmet whole leaf teas, unique cards, an in-store John Medeiros jewelry ‘boutique,’ Musewear Pottery and so much more. PS: If you’re looking for a personalized wedding, shower, birthday or sentimental gift, Primavera has a great selection of platters, frames, signs and more they can customize and turn around quickly.

Retro Rest & Haute Hangovers

So it was hovering below 50° on Friday night, and today it’s a balmy 61° in Newport, pushing 70° in Providence. Is it any wonder coughs and colds are going around left and right?!?! I was at Bellevue Beauty Walk on Bowen’s Wharf after a delightful lunch at Diego’s (which, if you haven’t been, you’re missing out…hello, Baja aioli), and saw these adorable retro ice bags—perfect to perk up any of your infirmed family and friends (and they’re just 15 bucks)! Designed by Gal Pal and with more than a dozen adorable designs, these are just too cute. Considering the ramp up to Saturday’s Halloween’s parties, the pictured martini-themed version might be perfect to nurse those open-bar blues that might linger Sunday….

I also couldn’t help but notice the great Tepper Jackson weekend bag in the window! “Its’ generous size holds all of your necessary cosmetic and hair products that keep you looking fabulous while jet-setting. And don’t just keep it packed away in your luggage, take it out on the town and show off your unique sense of style,” boasts the designer’s web site about the (pictured) Aurora Gold bag, and frankly, I couldn’t have said it better myself. It can be yours (and hopefully mine) for $64.
