Hometown Holidays: Certified Organic Skin Care

I bought a set of Farmaesthetics travel sizes last Christmas for a stocking stuffer (that was much appreciated), and when I popped in last month, I spotted this great little set that comes in a pretty little package. The Farmaesthetics Facial-to-Go ($33) includes travel-size glass bottles of Fine Herbal Cleanser (1 fl. oz), Nourishing Lavender Milk (1 fl. oz), and Sweet Milk and Lavender Buds Facial Exfoliate (1 oz). The kit is ideal for travelers, in and out of the gym, and for any Farmaesthetics first-timer to sample the cetified organic, paraben-free line that is absent of all dyes, fragrances, fillers, petroleum and talc. Facial-to-go is available at the Farmaesthetics flagship shop on Bellevue Avenue, at Green Envy Eco-Boutique in Brick Market Place and Most Naturally in Narragansett.

Shopping for an already Farmaesthetics fan? The newly introduced herbal serum Complexion Conserve ($48) restores radiance and vitality to the skin. The vitamin-filled elixir, which contains carrot seed oil, rose otto oil, soy oil and vitamin E,  is said to: accelerate the skin’s natural repair process, minimize pigmentation and inflammation, and restores elasticity to skin in need (including the dehydrated, stressed or sun-damaged). It was recently reviewed following a month-long trial on and came through with a glowing rave.

SAVINGS TIP: Shop on on and for every full size product you purchase, you will receive a FREE luxury travel size of the same product by entering promo code “Stockingstuffer” at checkout. Good through December 10th.

Green is the New Black

Eco chic …conscious couture …  recycled runway … whatever you choose to call the growing movement of choosing garments, footwear and accessories while considering their origins, materials, sustainability and the working conditions in which they were crafted, is undoubtedly in. And eco-fashionistas Natalie Portman, Gwen Stefani, Lea Michele, Sienna Miller and Demi Moore all prove that we’re not talking about hempy, “earth-friendly” potato sack anomalies. Alongside New York Fashion Week this year was the inaugural Eco Fashion Week at The Green Shows, where clothing with a conscience sashayed down the runways.

Closer to home, Rachel Lessne at Green Envy in Brick Market Place is proving ethically sound, fair trade fabulousness is easy to achieve. Check out this casual but conscious look for fall … click the link below the fall look she’s created and the look she’s wearing.

Black Ships Festival Starts Today~

Celebrating its 26th year, the Black Ships Festival descends on Newport July 16-19 bringing with it a host of entertaining events and festivities—many of which are free and open to the public. In between the shops at Brick Market Place you’ll find Japanese tea tastings at Tea on Thames, sushi demonstrations at Sushi-Go, sumo wrestlers meet and greets, and ninja, anime, samurai sword, stick fighting, painting, calligraphy and martial art demonstrations. Amid all of the  activity at Brick Market, check out one of the best shopping sites in Newport, more than 4 acres in fact, of one-of-a-kind shops. While the Thames Street side of Brick Market Place has ample visibility, the back row, Goddard Row, hosts a string of less discovered shopping gems including: Green Envy, an eco-friendly boutique with fair trade clothing, accessories and gifts; Jason & Co., a must-see shop known for the coveted Pandora and Trollbeads jewelry, exquisite coastal accents and home accessories; Portobello Jewelers collection of estate, antique and contemporary stunners; Gelissimo’s sootless candles and other unconventional finds, all made in the U.S.A. Check out these and the rest of the Black Ships events for an international experience right here in the City-by-the-Sea.
