Snap, Crackle, Pop-up! Jack Wills in Newport Makes a Change…

footer_pod1Fabulously British retailer Jack Wills arrived in Newport in 2011 but there are some big changes underway. The preppy shop boasting British heritage-inspired goods for the university crowd has now become a pop-up store for the brand with discounted prices. That means that everything from sweatshirts and comfy casuals to tweed blazers and outerwear are a fraction of the original price, typically 30% to 60% off. The Newport shop has some great discounted finds for men, women, teens and tweens. Ciao Bella, Francesca!

Welcome to New Peeps Week, where each day I’ll introduce you to a new retail business opening in Newport. If you missed Saturday’s post (below) on Jack Wills, check it out. Today, it’s a warm welcome extended to Francesca’s Collections, a women’s clothing, jewelry, accessories, and gift boutique which is opening in Newport’s Long Wharf Mall. Francesca’s currently has shops in nearly 40 states and rapidly expanding, which made Newport a natural target market. Most of all the brand is known for being affordable, with dresses ranging from $34-$54, tops starting at $28, skirts starting at $34 and a ton of great sales.

What is the Francesca’s look? “I think Francesca’s is a bit of chameleon,” Trang Nguyen told me from Francesca’s headquarters. “Our style is eclectic, worldly, feminine, comfortable, a bit sexy, & a bit pretty. The main draw is that we’re affordable.”

Francesca’s Collections will open in Long Wharf Mall, across from the Gapthis month.

‘Ello, Jack Wills … Welcome to Newport!

I can finally reveal that, Jack Wills, a hip, preppy clothing chain with pieces designed to reflect British heritage and style, is coming to Newport. How appropriate to share this today with the eyes of the world on London this week! The line dubs itself as “the original University Outfitters,” but I’ve seen the Newbury Street shop in Boston, which was illuminated by the Union Jack, and while it does have a predominately young appeal, there’s some great, comfy basics to be had. Think Abercrombie and Fitch with an across the pond twist. Known for being “Fabulously British,” Jack Wills focuses on clothing but also has some funky home goods, jewelry, stationary and fun finds.

The Newport shop is only Jack Wills in Rhode Island, and joins other locations in Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and the aforementioned Boston location.

Jack Wills, scheduled to open in May, at 170 Thames Street in Newport.
