Angela Moore Fashion Show Wrap-Up

There’s so much going on during the Newport summertime I’m only now doing a follow up post on July’s annual Angela Moore Fashion Show and Champagne Breakfast, which  kicked off a weekend of festivities during the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Tournament at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Gorgeous summer weather set the tone for a beautiful day.  Angela hosted more than 250 guests, making this the largest fashion show to date held on the historic Horseshoe Piazza. Guests enjoyed breakfast and sipped champagne and strawberry kiwi bellinis provided by Russell Morin Caterers. In keeping with the show’s special look, Laurie Marshall created fabulous nautical tablescapes.Lucky guests also received raffle prizes from the Spa at Newport Marriott, Fila, Peace Love Studios and Three Islands.

A special treat included ATP tournament star and 2012 tournament player Matt Ebden as a surprise model. In sum, the show featured three different sets with over 30 models and 80 looks including fashions from Manuel Canovas, Barbara Gerwit, Tracy Negoshian, Just Madras, Jack Rogers, Angela Moore and dozens of other designers. (At top: Carolyn van Petten is wearing a Dizzy Lizzie Charleston dress accompanied by Karen Megley wearing Needles & Thread top and hooded metallic jacket with Lysee Leggings. at left: ATP tennis star Matt Ebden lets fellow model 2009 Miss Connecticut Ashley Karger take center stage wearing a gorgeous Bel Kazan Diamond long knit dress.)

Spring Break Rules!

I headed to The Rhode Show this morning with some posh picks for the fashionable traveler.  Whether you’re jetting off to St. Bart’s this spring break or just want to look like you are, there are some fabulous spring trends that are beginning to bloom.

First you’ll want to consider smart, travel friendly pieces that are light and durable—in addition to being beautiful. Turn heads when you’re sporting a one of a kind amazing tote by Francesca Joy. Designer Elise Francesca hand-paints each piece and with every component made in the USA. Size, styles and prices vary, but Rhode Show viewers can get an exclusive discount by shopping at http://www.etsy.com/shop/francescajoyPB and entering RHODESHOW at check out.

Colored denim is all the rage for spring and you’ll find varying lines pulling out all the stops offering everything from preppy pastels to unapologetic bold hues. We’re featuring these super soft AG Stilt skinny ankle jeans in cerulean, lemon lime and lavender today, but they come in a rainbow of colors at Laura Jean Denim. In contrast, a crisp white pair of AGs is essential for summer.

Pieces that are low maintenance and simple to pack like this Manuel Canovas curve hugging dress from Angela Moore are a fashionable traveler’s best friend. It’s stretchy, ultra light, takes up almost no space in your suitcase, and is multi-functional. Be the chicest on the beach or pair it with a great shoe and derby hat and you’re off to an al fresco lunch on Miami’s Ocean Drive. Also, leave the high-price bling at home for safe keeping and opt for whimsical jewelry pieces like this signature Angela Moore beaded necklace with Swarovski crystals.

A great flat will carry you a long way and the Tory Burch Miller sandal in white patent leather from Michael Hayes pairs easily with shorts, dresses, skirts and of course, your crisp white skinnies. If you’re crazy for Tory Burch and want the world to know, the Ella tote is nylon and therefore durable, but more importantly, is a fabulous carry all for when you have limited space in the overhead.

Finally, if you aren’t tropics-bound but want to fake it to you make it, or if you just want to practice safe sun, St. Tropez sunless tanning products from The Apothecary will make you look like you just you just returned from the exotic island.

Stay tuned for a link to The Rhode Show posted here!

All About Angela Moore’s 12th Annual Fashion Show & Champagne Breakfast

Last Thursday, in the throes of the Campbell’s Tennis Hall of Fame Championships, Angela Moore hosted her 12th Annual Fashion Show & Champagne Breakfast. The buzz was already at record levels with Andre Agassi‘s and Peachy Kellmeyer‘s pending inductions, but the biggest fashion show in its history added to the high spirits.

As the bubbly flowed, unabashedly preppy and signature City-by-the-Sea looks for men, women and children strutted the runway, all reflecting the theme of this year’s show, “Summer Fashions … Newport Style!”  Three sets were presented: Daytime Dazzle, Fun in the Sun and Moonlight Magic (evening wear).

The event grossed more than  $30,000 in proceeds that will go towards maintaining and enhancing the International Tennis Hall of Fame, bringing the total raised through the Angela Moore fashion shows to over $250,000. Without further adieu, here’s some great shots from the show (see even more photos after the jump)!

Stylephile Top 10 of 2010

As the year comes to a close, it’s a time to reflect on not only personal highlights, but the people, places and events that have influenced the community that shapes us. The list below is a compilation of posts reflecting what has both shaped the fabric of Newport and its surrounding communities, in no particular order, that we’ve covered:

Runway ReDeux

When the internationally-acclaimed couturier duo Mark Badgley and James Mischka chose the corner of Prospect Hill Street and Bellevue Avenue as the site of just their third eponymously-named boutique, people took notice. The duo told me in an interview in early June that the pop up shop would indeed be seasonal, but also a good litmus test of the market here in Newport for a possible return.

Rhode Trips

It was just too much fun appearing on The Rhode Show many an early morning this year to chat about some of the best Newport has to offer. From getting the look for less and putting together celeb-inspired looks for our jazz and folk festivals, to getting All Dressed Up and accessorizing up and down, to more recently toasting the holiday season with segments on gift ideas by land and by sea, Christmas in Newport and Last Minute Gift Finds in Newport, The Rhode Show crew is simply the best.

‘Tis Himself

“In the flesh?!” was my reaction when I was told Vogue’s European editor at large, Hamish Bowles, was coming to Newport. Truth is, events featuring style authorities of this magnitude can be, while interesting, less than engaging—there can be the sense they’ve delivered the lecture a million times before and can do it with their eyes closed. Mr. Bowles was anything but. With quirky quips on his costume-loving childhood to insightful commentary on the evolution of style and fashion throughout the modern era, Bowles was as charming as he was dapper.

Tasty Delights

When Tallulah on Thames opened just in time for spring’s Newport Restaurant Week, fine dining fans were ecstatic over the new addition to Newport’s Lower Thames Street. Winning rave reviews from press and adding a chic upstairs lounge with small plates, the hot spot has won over local gastronomes. Just a stone’ throw away, many Newporters were delighted to see the return of The Pier, a venerable hot spot that had, in more recent history, seen a few reincarnations, few with any staying power. This time around, with new owners, live music and a renovated outdoor bar and patio, the spot seems to have gained significant traction.

Welcome…Come in, Stay a While…

It started in the spring when Newport’s own Angela Moore moved her flagship shop from the northern section of Bellevue Avenue to the Casino Block. (The shop also brought in a fresh crop of lines, including Kara Janx, Milly, Julie Brown, Three Islands, Melly M, Manuel Canovas, Lilla P and more). Classic American clothier J. McLaughlin opened a few doors down by June, followed by Badgley Mischka and the Palm-Beach-Meets-Newport trio of Boo Gemes, Lily Holt, and Sequin, all at 119 Bellevue. Eye-brow guru Sara Schlieff-Ross also opened the doors to ArchBeauty SkinCare Salon & Boutique on Memorial Boulevard, just steps from the corner of William Street and Bellevue which, it seems, is shaping up to be an entirely revitalized shopping corridor in Newport.

Stay tuned for the second half of the list…

Angela Moore Fashion Show 2010

If you weren’t able to attend the 11th Annual Angela Moore Fashion Show and Champagne Breakfast that we wrote about here, have no fear, we have a sampling of some of the best looks below. Some of the overriding themes included tops and dresses with sequin detail, stacked bangles, bold and classic hats, and exciting prints for men and women. Hair and make-up provided by Newport County’s own Celebeautique, Ki-Ra and Jo D’Alan salons. Here’s just a few fab looks:

ATP stars Tomasz Bednarek and Dustin Brown were both quarterfinalists in the tournaments and wore shirts by Three Islands. They are joined by Miss Connecticut USA, Ashley Bickford, who is wearing one of my favorite looks of the day, Julie Brown‘s Emme dress paired with Angela Moore jewelry.

Ava Anderson, Gabby Womble and Christina Womble are dressed in Melly M and Lilly Pulitzer and accessorized with Angela Moore jewelry and Toucan hats.

Miss Connecticut Ashley Bickford looked so Newport in Julie Brown’s Sara dress in butterfly print with an Alashan cardigan, Lilly Pulitzer clutch and Angela Moore jewelry.
